MISSION
The European Finance Association (EFA) was created in 1974 under the auspices of the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) and in close cooperation with the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management (EIASM).
The aim of the Association is to provide a professional society for academics and practitioners with an interest in financial management, financial theory and its application. EFA serves as a focal point of communication for its members residing in Europe and abroad. It also provides a framework for better dissemination of information and exchange at the international level.
ACTIVITIES
The Association's Annual Meetings provide the opportunity to present research work in the field of company finance, investment, financial markets, money and banking. The first EFA Annual Meeting was held in 1974 at the Centre d'Enseignement Supérieur des Affaires (CESA). Since then, many more EFA conferences have been organised in major cities all over Europe. Each year, EFA and EIASM jointly organise a Doctoral Tutorial for PhD students, as part of the EFA Annual Meeting.
In 2004, the European Finance Review got a new name and a new editorial board. The Review of Finance is currently edited by Marco Pagano and Josef Zechner (managing editors), Franklin Allen, William Goetzmann, Colin Mayer and Raman Uppal (co-editors). The intention of the editors is to establish the Review of Finance as a leading journal in finance, competing for the best articles worldwide with the very top journals in the field and aiming at a wide circulation and visibility in the profession. The editorial board is thus committed to matching the standard of the very best international finance journals. The editorial policy of the Review of Finance is guided by two main criteria: quality and innovation. A high-quality paper will not be turned down on the basis of being controversial or in a field outside of mainstream finance. In fact, the board welcomes submissions of high-quality papers in all areas of financial economics: established areas such as asset pricing, corporate finance, banking and market microstructure, but also newly developing fields such as law and finance, behavioural finance, and experimental finance.
In order to keep the EFA membership informed of its activities as well as of other events in the field, the Association regularly updates its own website. Via several pages under the menu heading "News from the Finance Community", members are invited to announce conferences and other events coming up in the broad spectrum of Finance, convey information about their on-going or finished research, seek out desired research collaboration and announce the availability of or need for teaching materials, etc. The Online Jobmarket is the ideal electronic medium for listing job vacancies or soliciting employment in the field of Finance, especially for young professionals.
Every year, as part of its European Doctoral Education Network (EDEN), EIASM organises a selection of intensive courses and relevant seminars for doctoral students, known as the EDEN Programmes. One of the core subject areas is Finance. The faculty members teaching EDEN courses are all affiliated with leading international institutions. |
